Meet Master Artisan: Ramesh Ji
A conversation with our lead block carver on his 40-year career and passing the torch to the next generation.
Ramesh Ji has been carving wooden blocks for printing for over 40 years. His hands move with a practiced certainty, carving intricate floral and geometric patterns into blocks of teak wood. 'It takes patience,' he says, 'and an understanding of how the wood will interact with the dye and the fabric.'
Ramesh Ji is now training his son and several other young artisans, ensuring that this meticulous craft continues to thrive in the modern era.
